Retail and Store Manager


The Museum of Sex is currently seeking an innovative and skilled individual interested in joining the staff of the nation’s first Museum dedicated to the preservation and presentation of Human Sexuality.

Applications are currently being accepted for the position of Store Manager in our newly renovated Fifth Avenue Store, opening in November.

The Store Manager will be responsible in overseeing:

  • Inventory management
  • Product purchasing and store supplies
  • Visual merchandising and store upkeep
  • Coordinating store events with the Events Department (Book signings, product launches, etc.)
  • Online store sales and mail order
  • Introducing new products and product development
  • Overseeing, training, and managing Store staff
  • Running daily, weekly, and monthly numbers and helping store reach sales goals

Requirements:
  • Applicants must have Retail and Management experience

This is a Full Time Position (Some weekends required)

Compensation: Based on experience.

Communications Interns


The Museum of Sex is seeking interns for the Communications Department.

Internship duties include: working closely with the Museum’s research library, helping to plan and execute Museum events and public programming, and researching and archiving PR materials.

Qualified applicants should have a basic knowledge of museum practices and procedures, proficiency in photoshop , and familiarity with social networking sites.

All applicants must be at least a junior in college; priority goes to applicants in a related graduate program. This internship is for one day (8 hours) a week.

This is an unpaid internship but school credit is available.

Curatorial Interns


The Museum of Sex, the first cultural institution of its kind, devoted to the historical, artistic, and cultural discourse surrounding sex and sexuality, is seeking curatorial interns.

As a young institution, we are able to provide our interns with practical experience in a youthful environment. This is an ideal internship for someone continuing their education either at the undergraduate or graduate level, as well as those interested in exposure to all aspects of the running of a small cultural institution.

Qualified candidates must have a background in theory pertaining to sex, sexuality and gender studies. Additionally, ideal applicants should be organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, professional, and possess basic computer skills. Please submit a brief (2pages or less) writing sample.

We are looking for a time commitment of between 8-20 hours per week (flexible schedule) depending on the project. We can offer course credit for this internship.

Internships in Collections Management

The Museum of Sex is seeking motivated, detail-oriented interns to assist with research and cataloging in the museum’s library, media library and artifact collections. Applicants should have a working knowledge of museum standards and procedures, excellent writing and research skills and an interest in gender and sexuality.

Positions are part-time (approximately 10-15 hours/week) and unpaid. Course credit is available for undergraduate or graduate students.
